Helping to automate

One such company is Fletcher Insulation, a leading insulation manufacturer and distributor supplying renowned brands to Australians. Fletcher looked for a company that could help automate a process at its Dandenong facility and BAMS provided the company with the certainty that it could deliver the project.

The task for BAMS was to design a machine that would automatically bag Fletcher’s insulation product, thereby enabling the redeployment of the Fletcher staff, who had previously completed the manual labour-intensive job of bagging the insulation, to other areas of the process. For this to work, Fletcher Insulation had to engage with its employees and make sure they were comfortable moving from a highly manual task that they had been doing for over 40 years, to running an automated machine. The BAMS machines do the same thing that the operator did but in an automated fashion and, with a much larger roll of materials.

As a result of the automation, the operators at Fletcher Insulation are now more engaged in the process, rather than sitting in one spot for manual bagging and handling.

“BAMS is able to gather a lot of experience, not just from the projects we work on locally in Australia, but also the projects that are being done around the world,” said Peter Hook, general manager, BAMS.
